Copilot's instructions live in each repository. Decisions made in a chat with Claude or ChatGPT, or by a teammate in a different editor, never reach them.

  1. Sign in to Contexel. It takes about a minute.
  2. In VS Code, open the Command Palette, run MCP: Add Server, and choose HTTP.
  3. Paste your Contexel address, https://contexel.ai/mcp, and name it contexel.
  4. Sign in with your browser when VS Code asks, then use Copilot Chat in Agent mode.

Using Copilot in JetBrains or Visual Studio? Those connect with a token for now: create an access token in the console's Settings tab and add it as the server's Authorization header.

Does this replace Copilot's custom instructions?

No. Keep them for things specific to one repository. Use Contexel for what your team knows across repositories and apps.

Does my code get uploaded?

No. Contexel only stores what you or your AI choose to save as a memory. It does not read your repository.

Who can see what I save?

You start with a private workspace that only you can use. You choose when to create a shared one and who to invite.
