AI memory for teams

Contexel vs Claude memory.

Claude's memory learns about you. Contexel holds what your team, or your household, needs every AI to know, in whichever app each person uses.

The short answerUse Claude's own memory for what Claude should know about you personally. Use Contexel when the same facts need to reach teammates, or other AI apps such as ChatGPT, Cursor and Claude Code in the terminal. Both can run at once, and Claude reads Contexel when your question needs it.

What Claude's memory does well

Claude builds up memory about you as you chat, so a new conversation already knows your role, your projects and how you like answers written. It can also search your past chats when you ask about them. Each Project has its own memory, so work for one client doesn't leak into another. You can view and edit what it remembers, and it needs no setup.

Where it stops

  • It's yours alone. Each person's memory is theirs; even a workspace owner can't see it. A decision your team made doesn't reach a teammate's Claude.
  • It stays in Claude's apps.Claude Code in the terminal, Cursor, ChatGPT and Copilot don't read it.
  • Projects are walled off. That's good for privacy, but a convention that applies to every Project has to be repeated in each one.

What Contexel adds

Contexel is a memory that lives outside any one app. Connect it to Claude and Claude can save to it and read from it. Connect it to Claude Code, Cursor or ChatGPT and they read the same memory. Put something in a shared workspace and everyone you invited has it too.

Every memory Contexel hands your AI comes with who saved it and where it came from. When the AI says "we ship on Thursdays", you can look it up in Contexel and fix it in one place.

Which should you use?

Just Claude's memory if you work alone, mostly in Claude on the web or desktop, and want it to learn your preferences.

Contexel if you work with other people, use Claude Code or another AI app beside Claude, or want to see where each remembered fact came from. Connecting Claude takes a few minutes, and Claude keeps its own memory.

Questions

Can I move what Claude already remembers into Contexel?

Yes. The console gives you a request to send in Claude that lists what it remembers about you. Paste the answer back, uncheck anything you don't want kept, and save the rest.

Who can see what I save?

You, and the people you share with. In a team or family account, anyone who manages the account can also open your private workspace, and you are told. Contexel holds the encryption key, so it could read it too.
