How to share AI memory with your team.
The memory built into ChatGPT and Claude belongs to one person. Here's how to give a whole team one memory, whichever AI app each person uses.
The short answerCreate a shared workspace in Contexel, invite your team, and have each person connect the AI app they already use. Anything saved to the workspace from one app is there when a teammate asks in another.
Why your team's AI doesn't know what you told yours
ChatGPT and Claude both remember things now, but each memory belongs to one account in one app. When you tell ChatGPT how your team handles refunds, a teammate asking Claude the same question starts from nothing. Everyone ends up repeating the same context, and the answers drift apart.
Set up a shared memory in five steps
- Sign in to Contexel. You get a private workspace of your own.
- Create a shared workspace for the team and invite people by email. In a team workspace, you choose who can add memories and who can only read them.
- Each person connects the AI app they use: Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or Gemini CLI. It takes a few minutes.
- Save what the team should know. Say "remember for the team: ..." in any connected app, or type it into the console.
- Ask as usual. When a question needs team knowledge, the AI looks it up and answers from the team's memory.
What to put in a team memory
- Decisions."We ship on Thursdays." "Refunds over $500 need a manager."
- Conventions. How you name things, which tools you use, which you've stopped using.
- Who owns what."Maria approves invoices over $5,000."
- Client and project context. What each client asked for, and what they don't want.
Leave out passwords, keys and anything your team shouldn't all see. Private things belong in your private workspace.
Keeping it right
A shared memory is only useful if people trust it. Contexel keeps who saved each memory and the history of every change, and lets anyone who can edit the workspace correct a memory from any connected app, so a wrong fact is fixed for everyone at once.
Questions
Does everyone need to use the same AI app?
No. Each person connects whichever AI app they use. Claude, Cursor and ChatGPT all read the same shared memory.
Can I keep some things private?
Yes. Everyone has a private workspace, and only what you save to a shared workspace is shared. In a team account, whoever manages it can open a private workspace if they need to, and its owner is told.
Does it replace the memory built into ChatGPT or Claude?
No. Each app keeps its own memory for you. Contexel adds the one your team shares.
