AI memory for families

A shared AI memory for your family.

You told ChatGPT the kids' schedule. Your partner asked Claude. Here's how to give everyone in the house the same memory, while each of you keeps a private one.

The short answerCreate a Family workspace in Contexel and invite the other adults in your household. Everyone in the household can see it, edit it and add to it from their AI apps, from the moment it's created. Each person connects the AI app they already use. Say "remember this for the family" and it goes to the family workspace; anything else stays private to you.

Why your family's AI apps don't agree

ChatGPT and Claude remember things for one account. When you tell ChatGPT that soccer practice moved to Tuesdays, your partner's Claude has no idea. One of you uses ChatGPT, the other uses Claude, and a teenager uses something else again. The household ends up explaining the same things to every app, and nobody is sure which one is right.

Set it up in a few minutes

  1. Sign in to Contexel. You get a private workspace of your own.
  2. In the Contexel console, choose New workspace, pick the Family type, and describe it, for example "The Garcia household: school schedules, trips and home repairs".
  3. Invite the other adults in your household by email. Each person keeps a private workspace too.
  4. Each person connects the AI app they use: ChatGPT, Claude or any other AI app that can add a connector. It takes a few minutes.
  5. Optional: paste one sentence into each app's instructions so it saves to Contexel and checks it. The console gives you the sentence.

Inviting others needs a plan that includes them, such as Family (up to 6 adults in one household); the console tells you if you need one. Kids do not get accounts, but the family memory can be about them.

Saving to the family, not just to yourself

Say "remember this for the family" in any connected app and it goes to the family workspace. Anything else stays private to you. That's on purpose: nothing about you gets shared by guesswork, only what you say is for the family.

You, in ChatGPTRemember for the family: soccer practice moved to Tuesdays at 5, and it's my turn to drive.

Later, your partner in ClaudeIs anyone free to take the kids somewhere on Tuesday evening?

You can also type a memory straight into the console under Add a memory and pick the family workspace there.

What families keep in it

  • Schedules.Practices, lessons, pickups, who drives on which day, when school is out.
  • Home details. The plumber you trust, when the filters were last changed, the Wi-Fi name for guests.
  • Trips and plans.Where you're staying, what's booked, what still needs doing.
  • Preferences.Who doesn't eat what, gift ideas for each grandparent, the kids' favorite books.

Keep passwords, bank details and anything you wouldn't want every adult in the house to see out of the family workspace. Private things belong in your own workspace.

What stays private

Each adult has a private workspace, and only what you save to the family workspace is shared. One caveat: the person who manages your household's account can open a member's private workspace if they need to. Contexel records every time they do, and tells the member who opened it and when. Each memory keeps who saved it, so when the AI says "practice is on Tuesdays", you can check who said so in Contexel and fix it in one place.

You can download every memory as plain text files, any time. Your data is stored encrypted. Contexel holds the key so search can work, which means Contexel could technically read your data. See Security for details.

Questions

Does everyone need to use the same AI app?

No. Each person connects whichever AI app they use. ChatGPT and Claude read the same family memory.

Can my kids use it?

Not with their own accounts: everyone on Contexel must be at least 18. Parents can save what the family needs to know about the kids, like schedules and plans.

Can my partner read my private workspace?

Only if they manage your household's account, and then you are told. Everything else stays private unless you save it to the family workspace.
